“Failure to Launch” is a term that we use in order to define a client that has had trouble starting the path to recovery. With a Failure to Launch individual, substance use may or may not be the primary concern; unhealthy avoidance coping skills may be the primary issue at play. This particular individual is low functioning, dependent on others, emotionally and financially, and lacks real motivation towards positive life skills.
